Our 2024 Team

We are a mix of full time and seasonal workers, passionate about growing beautiful vegetables for a community we love.

Angie Koch

Owner/Farm Manager

For Angie, Fertile Ground has been an exciting venture into the world of farm entrepreneurship. With an educational and professional background in community development, Angie made a shift towards the life of vegetable-growing in 2007. Favourite farm tasks include basket weeding, trellising tomatoes, watering the greenhouse, and chatting with members at CSA pick-ups. Angie loves getting her hands dirty & is kinda proud when the grit just won’t come out from under her fingernails. When not in the fields or wrestling spreadsheets, she can likely be found strumming her banjo, sipping a craft brew, puttering in her kitchen, peering through binoculars for local birds, or shamelessly reading a novel in a sunbeam. ~She/Her

Felix Pozojevic
Field Manager

Six years ago Felix left conventional greenhouse growing to try small-
scale organic farming. Since then it has truly become their passion! There is nothing more rewarding and challenging than organic farming and Felix sees themself in agriculture for the rest of their life. This is Felix' 2nd season at Fertile Ground. When not farming, Felix loves hiking, camping, baking and sewing. ~They/Them

Maca Suazo

Maca’s love of farming started as a child in the south of Chile where she felt a deep sense of connection with the land and farm animals. After graduating from Fine Arts at the University of Waterloo, Maca dedicated herself to the work of organic farming during the growing season and painting in the winters. She finds inspiration for her whimsical paintings in Nature. Maca loves being outdoors and her favorite jobs are harvesting herbs, bunching carrots, and feeding the left-over vegetables to the chickens. In her free time, Maca reads and reads - especially after a long day in the fields—with a cat on her lap. This is Maca's 2nd season at Fertile Ground. ~She/Her

Genevieve Bensason

Genevieve’s passion for farming blossomed from a lifelong affinity for the outdoors, nurtured during summers of camping, hiking, and tending to her mom’s gardens. Her journey into horticulture in 2021 sparked a profound connection to the earth, cultivating a love for nurturing plants and growing food. When not immersed in nature, you'll find Genevieve indulging her creative side with ceramics, stained glass, and knitting. With a keen interest in pollinators, Genevieve has dabbled in beekeeping and is eager to learn more about these essential critters and the intricate interconnectedness of the natural world.  ~She/Her

Kyle Woods

Kyle’s been passionate about our natural world for as long as he can remember. This passion accelerated while completing his Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science at Laurier where he discovered the amazing power of plants. His curiosity about plants only became stronger thereafter, allowing the natural world to become an integral part of his life through the healing power of fresh organic vegetables, adaptogenic foods, medicinal herbs, hiking, and biophilic indoor environments. Kyle’s gone from eating no vegetables as a kid to recently completing his first marathon on a plant-based diet. In his free time, Kyle does storm chasing, photography, reading and writing. Kyle is completing his Master of Environmental Studies and is eager to learn the practices of organic farming with intentions to start his own farm in the near future. ~He/Him

Elena Potter
Wash/Pack Lead

Elena has been immersed in the world of farming, flowers, and food for over 5 years. Equipped with a fine art degree from Toronto Metropolitan University, she initially pursued avenues in public art and project management. Eventually, her passion for the land led her to transition full-time into farming. Elena has since engaged in urban vegetable gardening, completed an immersive farming fellowship in Connecticut, become certified as an Organic Master Gardener, and served as an outdoor education instructor. Prior to joining Fertile Ground, she explored the local flower industry, working with Mount Wolfe Farm in Caledon.

Elena farms in the pursuit of joyfully reconnecting people with food and earth. Beyond her agricultural activities, she enjoys community organizing, Shabbat potlucks, LGBTQ+ literature, and outdoor swimming in all seasons. She is looking forward to learning about Waterloo region's favourite swim spots.  ~She/Her
